Lewis Hamilton shocked the Ferrari crew when he crashed his SF23 testing car at the Barcelona circuit. The 7-time world champion is doing his first-ever Ferrari test in a live F1 track. He previously tested his car at Maranello’s Fiorona testing track. The Ferrari team used the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for their TPC (Testing Previous Cars) program. They stayed in Barcelona for three days and the first day went very smoothly as Charles Leclerc took the steering in the morning session followed by Lewis Hamilton in the afternoon.

On the second day, the session was reversed and Lewis Hamilton went for the morning session while Leclerc waited for the post-lunch session. But around 11 AM Local time, Hamilton had a massive crash on the final corner. Due to that, the SF23 was severely damaged making it unrepairable for the day and Leclerc’s session was scrapped. Ferrari continued the third day by allowing their junior and reserve drivers Dino Beganovic, and Antonio Giovinazzi to take the steering wheel instead of Hamilton and Leclerc.

The Maranello team will remain in Barcelona as Pirelli will test their 2026 tyres next week with McLaren and Ferrari at the same circuit. During the tyre test, Lewis will drive last year's Ferrari SF24 for the first time. Lewis Hamilton crashing during preseason testing is not new as he already crashed his McLaren car in 2007, his Mercedes car in 2013 and this time a Ferrari in 2025. But each time he crashed his car the next year he went on winning the Formula 1 title. So there is a little bit of luck for him there.

Reason for Lewis Hamilton's crash

So the reason for his high-speed crash was finally out in an Italian magazine. It says a bump on the corner has caused Hamilton to lose control of his car forcing him towards the barriers at the last corner of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The British driver emerged from the car unscratched which was good news for everyone.
