Since last year there have been discussions about the rebranding of MotoGP. Earlier this season MotoGP’s commercial right holders Drona Sports announced this to participating teams and made it clear that there will be a new logo and rebranding by the end of the ongoing season.

Fan speculated that this might be happening because of the ongoing accusation process between Drona and Liberty Media. Notably, by the end of the ongoing Calander year, Liberty Media is likely to acquire around 86 per cent stakes in Drona Sports. However, Dorna's chief commercial officer Dan Rossomondo refutes all these claims and calls rebranding unrelated to the accusation.

Speaking about the rebranding and importance and need of a new logo Rossomondo said, "This renewal is, above all, about who we are and how we project ourselves. MotoGP is this incredible spectacle that we saw two weeks ago, in Austin, and we want to represent ourselves to the world in this way.”

"The great luck we have is that our racing is incredible. That's what we have to explain and show. It's a global action, covering many different areas. From how we treat our fans, to our partners, to our relationship with our customers. We want to be more consistent in our message," added the American.

‘It is the least attractive part’, says Rossomondo

Further speaking about the different aspects of the rebranding Rossomondo says that the new logo of MotoGP will be the least attractive part of it. He believes that other things will take centre stage despite being aware of how the public will react to the new logo.

"There will be a new logo, but, for me, that is the least attractive part of all. What is remarkable is the strategy behind it," he said. "The logo will be liked by some and disliked by others, we already know that”, he concluded.

Notably, Rossomondo spoke about all this after the first free practice of the Spanish Grand Prix. In the FP1, Marquez brothers Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez clinched a 1-2 finish for Gresini Ducati. Besides them, Maverick Vinales, who won a race in America, got third place by finishing just 0.591 seconds behind. Vinales' teammate, Aleix Espargaro, finished in fourth place.
