The bouncer who blackmailed Formula 1 legend and 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher’s family of leaking confidential medical reports was caught by the police and jailed for three years. A German bouncer working at a nightclub was the culprit who asked the Schumacher family for 14 million euros.

In 2013, F1 legend Michael Schumacher had a fatal accident that left him paralysed for many months. The German Formula 1 driver was skiing in the French Alps and went to a place with dangerous rocks to help his fellow skier and friend. During that attempt, he lost control and crashed into a hard rock, head first and immediately went unconscious. After many months of treatment, he returned to consciousness. However, the damage done to his nervous system was too much, as his medical condition doesn’t allow him any physical movements.

Schumacher's blackmailer sentenced with prison

Yilmaz Tozturkan, a bouncer, stole the medical records and personal videos of the world champion during his treatment in the hospital and blackmailed his family with a massive 14 million. He threatened them with leaking those confidential documents on the internet and dark web if they failed to pay him. It included 1500 images, videos, and sensitive medical reports that were taken from a computer without authorisation. He sought the help of Michael’s former bodyguard, Markus Fritsche, who was the mastermind behind the blackmail scandal.

During the trial, the ex-bouncer regretted his action and said, “I’m very sorry and ashamed for what I have done. It was a very disgusting thing. I take full responsibility." His son Daniel Lins, an IT specialist, was also sentenced to 6 months in prison. Fritsche, the mastermind of all this, was sentenced to two years.

But there is still a crucial hard drive that contains sensitive material, which is still a concern for the Schumacher family. It could still be used as blackmail material in the future. Michael Schumacher hasn't been seen in public since his accident in 2013 and his family is keeping his health condition very confidential.
