For the first 45 minutes, there was significant track activity on intermediate tyres. However, with 15 minutes remaining, the rain returned, solidifying the standings. Russell clocked the fastest lap with a time of 1:37.529s, narrowly beating his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton by just 0.035s.
McLaren’s Lando Norris, who had been the quickest in both Friday sessions, followed closely, just 0.185s behind Russell. This British trio dominated the session, maintaining a comfortable lead over the rest of the field. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz was the best of the rest, finishing over six-tenths of a second behind Russell.
Pierre Gasly pulls out Red Flag
VCARB driver Daniel Ricciardo had a disappointing session, ending up 18th, a substantial 3.637s off the pace. Ricciardo’s troubles were compounded by a pending stewards' investigation for an incident in the pit lane.
During a red-flag period triggered by Alpine's Pierre Gasly sliding off the track and into the gravel at Vale, Ricciardo’s return to the pits raised eyebrows. Footage from his onboard camera showed him weaving through the pit lane, narrowly avoiding team personnel from other garages. Although he appeared to be in control of his car, the close calls could lead to repercussions.
The session highlighted the skill and adaptability of the British drivers, particularly in challenging conditions. Russell’s performance sets a positive tone for Mercedes, while Norris continues to demonstrate McLaren’s competitiveness this season.
