The American MotoGP 2024 proved to be a heartbreak for Marc Marquez. The man who was riding for a dream run at the Texas circuit lost his control at Turn 11 which led him to crash and lose the pole position. Marquez, who has won six times at COTA in MotoGP races, was in the lead after passing Pedro Acosta. But then, as he was braking hard going into Turn 11, his bike slipped out from under him.
Now, after a heartbreak in America Marquez spoke about the main reason behind his crash. He revealed that his front brake was the culprit behind the issue. He said, "I'm more disappointed because today the speed was there, the feeling was there, but I had unexpected problems with the front brake during the race that gave me a lot of difficulties to ride.”
"Even like this, I was able to be in the top group because the pace was not very fast. And then just I tried to lead as soon as possible, to see if the temperature changed on the brake or something.”
“The feeling was improving but unfortunately when I arrived on Turn 11, I braked and nothing was there. And then the second time [braking] was better, but still yeah, too much speed and then it's when I lost the front."
‘The feeling was changing”, says Marc Marquez
Further speaking about the issue Marquez revealed that he had to hammer his breaks two or three times in each lap. He said that the persistent issue forced him to take the lead in speed causing the eventual incident.
He said, "The feeling was changing at every breakpoint, every corner, and that was my main worry, and in the end, my main worry gave me what I expected. And then I fell off. You know that I'm a guy that if I crash, I say 'sorry, I crashed'. But today we had a lot of problems."
