One of the iconic brands in the world, Michelin, has finally decided to exit the MotoGP championship after the 2026 season. Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli takes over MotoGP as the new tyre supplier from the 2027 season. The iconic French manufacturer is known for its premium quality and performance tyres. They were the official tyre partners of MotoGP for the last 11 years. MotoGP owner Dorna Sports wants the same tyre supplier for all their racing championships.
Pirelli enters MotoGP, replacing Michelin
Michelin disagreed with that new rule, and they decided to leave the championship after the next year's season. To replace the big giant, MotoGP has brought another big giant, Pirelli, and they will be supplying tyres from the 2027 to 2031 season. The Italian manufacturer is already the official tyre partner for Formula 1. They also supply tyres for Moto 2, Moto 3 and Moto E. Now, they will also be supplying tyres to MotoGP, the biggest bike racing championship in the world.
When it enters MotoGP, the bikes will have an 850cc engine instead of a 1000cc. They are already very successful in Formula 1, and their brand value has grown sky-high in the last 10 years. This will be a big loss for Michelin, as they could not collect any more data from bikes after the 2027 season.
The MotoGP bikes are the fastest in the world, as the bikes can go at a speed of 300 KMPH. At this speed, the tyre temperature, wear and tear, and behaviour change drastically and manufacturers collect data and design their tyres accordingly. After the 2027 season, Pirelli will be a clear winner against their biggest rival Michelin, as they will be the official tyre partner for the two pinnacle racing events. Pirelli’s Pzero tyres were already a huge success in Formula 1. They are using Diablo Rosso for their Moto 2 and Moto 3 bikes.
