Lewis Hamilton achieved a monumental victory at the British Grand Prix, marking his first win in 56 races since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021. This triumph, which unfolded in a thrilling wet-dry race at Silverstone, also established a new record for the most race wins at a single event, with Hamilton securing his ninth victory at this historic circuit.
At the start of the race, Hamilton settled in behind his Mercedes teammate and pole-sitter George Russell. For the initial stint, the seven-time world champion maintained his position, biding his time. The dynamic changed on Lap 18 when a drizzle began to fall, and Hamilton seized the opportunity to overtake Russell.

However, the race took another turn by Lap 21 when both Hamilton and George Russell were overtaken by Lando Norris. Norris, who had been overtaken by Max Verstappen at the start, began a remarkable charge towards the front on Lap 17.
The pivotal moment came on Lap 27 when Norris, Hamilton, and Russell all pitted for intermediate tyres. At this stage, Norris held a 3.2-second lead over Hamilton. The race saw another shift on Lap 34 when Russell retired, prompting a strategic switch back to dry tyres.
Soft Tyre strategy worked for Hamilton!
Hamilton made his move by pitting for soft tyres at the end of Lap 38, while Max Verstappen opted for hard tyres. Norris continued for one more lap before switching to softs, setting up a showdown between Hamilton, Norris, and Verstappen.
In a nail-biting finish, Hamilton emerged victorious, showcasing his exceptional driving skills and strategic acumen. This win not only marked his first in over two years but also his ninth British Grand Prix victory, breaking the record he previously shared with himself (Hungary) and Michael Schumacher (France).
Verstappen finished second after a late charge, overtaking Norris. The rest of the top ten included Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz, Nico Hulkenberg, Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon, and Yuki Tsunoda, all contributing to an electrifying and memorable race.
Hamilton's victory at Silverstone is a testament to his enduring talent and determination, reaffirming his place as one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula 1. This iconic win will be remembered as a highlight in his illustrious career and a significant moment in the 2024 season.
