The Dutch Grand Prix first started in the year 1952. Despite a few misses, it took place consistently till 1985. But there was a long gap from 1985 to 2021 when no race took place in Zandvoort. Post-pandemic, the race returned for the first time in 36 years. Max Verstappen, the hometown buy, made the most of the support to win the title on return. Since then, it has been his domination in the track.

Likewise, before the race stopped in 1985, many top drivers in the world claimed titles at the Dutch Grand Prix. Most of the winners clocked a great rice time and impressed the viewers. Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix 2024, Verstappen would be hoping to impress the home crowd with his performance.

Let us look at the last five winners at the Dutch Grand Prix:

Max Verstappen (2023, 2022, and 2021)

Max Verstappen has been the only champion since the race returned in 2021. His finish time in 2021 was 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 5.395 seconds, the best in the history of the Dutch Grand Prix. The hometown boy defended his title in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The Red Bull driver will start the 2024 race as a favourite given the home support and his record at home conditions.


Niki Lauda (1985)

Niki Lauda was one of the best drivers in the 1970s and the 1980s. He was the last winner of the Dutch Grand Prix before it returned in 2021. The Austrian driver helped McLaren to win their second title in a row in Zandvoort. Niki finished his race in 1 hour, 32 minutes, and 29.263 seconds to win the title. He had a winning margin of just 0.232 seconds to win a thrilling race.


Alain Prost (1984)

Alain Prost delivered for McLaren in 1984 to win their first title in 8 years in Zandvoort. After winning the title with Renault in 1981, he won the title in 1984. The French driver had a pretty dominant race as he finished with a timing of 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 21.468 seconds. He had a win margin of 10.283 seconds to claim his second Dutch Grand Prix.


Rene Arnoux (1983)

Rene Arnoux had a great race for Ferrari in 1983. He started the race from the 10th position and finished with an incredible win margin of 20.839 seconds. The French driver helped Ferrari win their second consecutive title with a great timing of 1 hour, 38 minutes, and 41.950 seconds. He became the third French driver in three years to win the Dutch Grand Prix.


Didier Pironi (1982)

Didier Pironi won Ferrari its first Dutch Grand Prix in 5 years after Niki Lauda did in 1977. The French driver started the race in the fourth position and finished with an highly impressive timing of 1 hour, 38 minutes, and 03.254 seconds. Pironi had a winning margin of a whopping 21.649 seconds. It happened to be Pironi's first and only title at the Dutch Grand Prix.
