To honour the legendary French-Canadian racer, Ferrari's current star, Charles Leclerc, had the rare privilege of driving Villeneuve’s iconic 1979 Ferrari 312 T4 at the Fiorano test track.

Villeneuve is often remembered as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers who never secured a World Championship title. The 1979 Ferrari 312 T4, which Leclerc had the opportunity to drive, is the very car that Villeneuve used to secure victories at the South African Grand Prix, the USA West Grand Prix, and the USA Grand Prix, contributing to Ferrari’s constructors' championship that year. Villeneuve's teammate, Jody Scheckter, won the driver's title, cementing that season as a remarkable chapter in Ferrari's history.

How did Charles Leclerc get the opportunity to drive?

Charles Leclerc’s experience in the 312 T4 was not just a moment of nostalgia but also a connection to the rich heritage of Ferrari. The event was made even more special with the presence of another Ferrari legend, Rene Arnoux.

Arnoux is renowned for his epic battle with Villeneuve during the 1979 French Grand Prix at Dijon, a race that remains one of the most thrilling in Formula 1 history. Under Arnoux’s guidance, Leclerc not only paid homage to Villeneuve but also relived a piece of Ferrari’s glorious past.
