In Formula 1, luck is all that matters in crucial times, and one driver who hasn't had any of it is Kevin Magnussen. The Danish driver made his debut in 2014, and over the years he has been the driver for many teams like McLaren, Renault, and Haas F1 and also a simulator driver for Ferrari. This year, he lost his F1 opportunity as no team showed interest in signing him.

The 32-year-old is now out of Formula 1, and this is not the first time he is sidelined. In 2015, he was the reserve driver for McLaren before signing for Renault. Reflecting on his Formula 1 career all these years, Magnussen has now truly accepted his mistake of missing the opportunity to drive alongside Max Verstappen. During the 2018 season, Daniel Ricciardo shockingly announced his exit from the Red Bull team. Max Verstappen was left with no teammate, and Kevin Magnussen approached Christian Horner for the vacant seat.

Talking about the incident, Kevin said, “Daniel left Red Bull, and I remember my management speaking to Christian Horner because, of course, everyone was talking about the Red Bull seat. And Christian said, ‘Look, there’s nothing at Red Bull, but we can talk about Torro Rosso.’ and I said, ‘No, no, let's not do that’, which I shouldn't have done."

He added, “Gasly took the Red Bull seat, and Alex Albon was promoted from F2 to Torro Rosso, and then Gasly didn't do a good job—and Albon came in! So, you know the guy who got that Torro Rosso seat ended up at Red Bull. I missed the opportunity to be Max’s teammate.”

If Magnussen had accepted the offer from Horner, then he would have soon become the new teammate of Max Verstappen and probably would have ended up getting something better after that. As Magnussen prepares for his life away from F1, he has no regrets about any of the career decisions he made.

Kevin Magnussen is truly an underrated driver and was a hope for Haas F1 for many years. Who could forget his pole position at the Interlagos circuit in the 2022 season? He was also the best driver for the Haas F1 team and finished 9th in the driver's championship in the year 2018.
