Oscar Piastri's multi-year contract extension with McLaren was announced before the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, which kicks off the season. This comes after important members, such as teammate Lando Norris, team principal Andrea Stella, and CEO Zak Brown, recently received extensions. Initially contracted through 2026, Piastri has made a steady impression since joining McLaren, securing his spot on the team.

Last year when McLaren won its first constructors' championship since 1998, he finished fourth overall after winning in Hungary and Azerbaijan last season. Oscar Piastri and McLaren will have stability as they concentrate on upcoming seasons thanks to this extension, even though the precise length of the contract has not been made public. As the team is anticipated to maintain its competitiveness in 2025, Piastri is in a strong position to contend with Norris and Max Verstappen of Red Bull for the championship. Friday is the first practice for the F1 season opener at Albert Park on Sunday. Piastri, who will be 24 next month and intends to compete for the championship this year, said it was wonderful to be a part of McLaren's long-term plans. As the only driver to finish every racing lap in 2024, Piastri finished fourth overall and won a sprint race in his debut season.
