Franco Colapinto suffered a crash during the second qualifying race in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Williams driver tried to take a sharp turn and ended up hitting the wall. It significantly reduced his chances of finishing earlier in the race. Franco was in dismay as he suffered yet another crash following the ones in Brazil earlier this year.
Williams have suffered a lot of crashes in 2024 from both of their drivers. In particular, Colapinto has suffered multiple crashes in the year so far. The emerging star had crashed in the Brazilian Grand Prix twice. While one of them was in the qualifying race, the other was in the official race.

In Las Vegas, Franco was doing well before crashing his car onto the wall. In a hurry to take a sharp cut, the Argentine ended up hitting his front left wheel. Franco Colapinto managed to get out of the car soon and avoided any major injuries. He is reportedly fine to take part in the official race.
Delay in Las Vegas GP Qualifying race due to Franco Colapinto's crash
Due to the crash, the third part of the qualifying race had a bit of delay. There were repair works that had to be carried out following the event. FIA confirmed that there was a lot of debris on the track. Hence, barrier repairs were needed for the track to be good to drive.
The circuit operating team worked on the same. "There’s a lot of debris on the track and some potential barrier repairs needed, the circuit operations team are currently working on this," claimed FIA in its statement. The crash has resulted in a loss of about $3 million for the Williams Racing.
The crash meant a good chance for Max Verstappen to get closer to winning the Driver Championship. If several results go in his way, Max could end up being the Driver of the Year. The Dutch are currently just 62 points ahead of Lando Norris. Verstappen must ensure that Norris would not claim more than 59 points in Las Vegas.
