Ferrari is gearing up for significant upgrades ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix following a challenging outing in Montreal. Despite high expectations, the team faced setbacks attributed to pressure and adverse weather conditions, affecting their performance on the Canadian track.

However, Barcelona presents an opportune moment to gauge the top teams' hierarchy, and Ferrari is poised to make strides with their upcoming improvements. The SF-24, Ferrari's 2024 car, has showcased considerable progress over its predecessor, demonstrating enhanced potential and consistency this season.

While technical advancements have been notable, there have been lingering weaknesses affecting the car's performance at certain circuits. One such weakness has been the SF-24's struggle on soft tyres compared to its performance on harder compounds, leading to a stronger race pace but compromised qualifying results.

What will Ferrari bring to the Spanish Grand Prix?

With the Spanish Grand Prix ahead, Ferrari anticipates a return to form on Saturdays as well. To address these challenges, Ferrari's technical office has greenlit the introduction of their second aerodynamic package ahead of schedule, aimed at enhancing the car's performance, especially in low-speed corners.

The team has worked tirelessly in Maranello to ensure these upgrades are ready for Barcelona. The upgraded package includes changes to the floor, rear bodywork, tray area, and diffuser ramps, along with improvements to small deflector elements. These modifications are crucial for Ferrari to maintain competitiveness against rivals like McLaren and Mercedes.

The objective behind these upgrades is to bolster aerodynamic efficiency and load quality, allowing Ferrari to keep the pressure on front-runner Max Verstappen and Red Bull. The Barcelona circuit, known for providing a comprehensive verdict on car performance, will be a crucial test for Ferrari's developments.

"It is now common in F1 that a few hundredths determine entry into Q3. Therefore, Ferrari’s new upgrades must perform quickly to avoid another difficult weekend," stated a team insider to formu1a.uno emphasising the importance of these enhancements in the competitive Formula 1 landscape.
