Formula 1 Academy driver Sophia Floersch is facing heavy backlash after her controversial social media comment about former world champion Lewis Hamilton. The Alpine-backed driver made the comment after Lewis was asked about his dream F1 team.
Lewis Hamilton said he will have karting champion Kenzo Craigie and F1 academy driver Doriane Pin as his dream F1 team drivers. Mercedes-backed karting champion Craigie is continuing his good form while Doriane is also the runner-up in F1 2024 Academy season.

The comment sparked controversy.
Sophia commented on the post by saying “Put your money where your mouth is!”. She is a 24-year-old driver driving for Alpine Academy and she finished P29 in the 2024 Formula 3 standings. Hearing the comment many people were disappointed with the female driver and many gave her some piece of advice.
Red Bull senior engineer and Author Calum Nicholas said, “Very disappointed with this response Sophia Floersch. Lewis Hamilton has poured more money and time into championing underrepresented groups than anyone in the history of sport. Why would you want to antagonise people already on your side?”
Fans also joined the bashing, and her comment followed many replies. One user said, “A small Google search would've saved you from this idiocy.” Another fan said, “You are saying this to one of the few drivers who actually pushes for change and supports women in motorsport? Are you stupid?”

The seven-time world champion is very curious about bringing people from unrepresented backgrounds and fewer resources into Formula 1 racing. F1 is one of the most expensive sports to pursue as a career, so people with small backgrounds cannot afford to be F1 drivers.
Hamilton, who came from a humble background, was worried about this drastic change in Formula 1 over the years. That is why he is bringing people from small backgrounds into racing. The last Female driver in F1 was Giovanna Amati in 1992, and before that, Lella Lombardi in 1976.
