The Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix is over and Oscar Piastri took his first-ever victory of the 2025 season. He started on pole position and throughout the race he held onto his position and won the race comfortably. His teammate Lando Norris took P2 on the opening lap and George Russell lost one position and was P3.
So McLaren and Mercedes were the podium finishers. Red Bull played a brilliant strategy game and Max Verstappen the reigning champion finished on P4 ahead of the two Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Let us check the Race results.

Podium Finishers
The Podium finishers of the 2025 F1 Chinese Grand Prix were First Place Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Second Third Place Lando Norris (McLaren) and Third Place George Russell (Mercedes). Reigning world champion Max Verstappen finished P4 ahead of the Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Retired Drivers
Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda faced some issues with their cars and Alonso retired from the race due to brake failure, while Yuki had front wing damage which is very unusual as he did not have any collisions with any one in the race.
Race Summary
The Opening lap was a disaster for Max Verstappen as the Dutchman lost position from P4 to P6, while Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc gained position and moved to P4 and P5. But on his way, Hamilton accidentally damaged Leclerc’s front wing.
George Russell had a great start but Piastri was quick to defend his pole position in the first corner which made Russell lose his P2 to Lando Norris. Fernando Alonso had a good start to his race but his rear right breaks gave up and was on fire. He retired from the race on 6th lap leaving his teammate Lance Stroll as the only survivor of the Aston Martin F1 team.
Most of the teams on the front end followed a one-stop pit strategy and the teams in the back end chose a two-stop pit strategy. But running much longer added to the drivers' frustration as the grip was not there in the final few laps. Additionally, there was also a rain threat on the final few laps. It was all a game of strategy and tyre management and McLaren and Mercedes played their strategy well compared with the rest.
But McLaren and Oscar Piastri were clear in their strategy and went to the final lap and clinched victory. Lando Norris despite facing pressure from George Russell finished in P2. The Mercedes driver was too good at managing his tyres till the last and was P3. This was his third F1 race win for Oscar Piastri and this is also the start of his 2025 F1 Championship campaign this year.
When is the next F1 race?
As the 2025 F1 chinese GP is over we will now head to another Asian country. The land of the rising sun, Japan will host the next race which is the 2025 Japanese Grand prix at Suzuka. We expect McLaren to continue their winning run, and Mercedes could also bring some surprise there as their pace and balance are too good. Ferrari still has a lot of work to do as their pace is a bit lacking compared with McLaren.
