McLaren F1 driver and 2025 Formula 1 championship leader Oscar Piastri has congratulated the Indian foreigner Test captain Virat Kohli after he retired from the long format. The Delhi-born cricketer is one of the greatest batters of all time and India’s best Test captain. Under his leadership and guidance, the Indian cricket team has achieved many historic milestones and overseas victories.
Oscar Piastri congratulates Kohli
With his support and aggressive captaincy, India has dominated many countries like South Africa, Australia, England and New Zealand. Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri is a huge fan of cricket, and during his childhood days, he wanted to be a cricketer. He watches cricket during his non-racing days and supports the IPL T20 league.
Even this year, he was very impressed with Indian youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi after his outstanding century against the Gujarat Titans. Piastri became a fan of Suryavanshi, and he mentioned that on his Instagram status.
Starting this year, Piastri was present during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Boxing Day Test match. Piastri wanted to watch cricket whenever he was in Australia, and Cricket Australia invited him as a VIP guest. There, he jokingly mentioned Virat Kohli’s shoulder bump at Sam Konstas. He was even slammed by many Indian fans for making a joke of that incident.
Kohli is one of those cricketers who made Test cricket more interesting and likeable. With his aggressive captaincy and fierce celebrations, he made the fans erupt. Now, he will be missed as a Test cricketer, and not only Indian fans but many Australians will also miss him on the field. Kohli was meant to play in the England vs India Test series that starts next month in the UK.
Recently, Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the long format and said he will now concentrate on ODI cricket. Within a week, Virat Kohli has made the same decision and the Indian team are stranded without two of their greatest batters. But the good news is they will be available till the 2027 ODI World Cup. To keep them fit enough till then, they have to make this tough decision.
