It was a shocker as Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were disqualified from the F1 Chinese Grand Prix after their cars failed to pass the post-race checks. Out of these three, two drivers were inside the points table with P5 and P6. With their disqualification, Esteban Ocon, Kimi Antonelli, Alexander Albon, Oliver Bearman, Lance Stroll and Carlos Sainz move ahead of the table and gain points. Williams driver Carlos has now scored his first-ever Formula 1 points for the team after his former F1 team Ferrari got disqualified.
Reasons for Leclerc and Gasly disqualification
Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were disqualified as their Ferrari and Alpine cars breached the code of technical regulations. The two cars were underweight, as the minimum weight should be 800 kg after fuel drainage.
Lewis Hamilton faces disqualification
F1 legend and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton also faced similar disqualification after his rear skid block thickness was less than the minimum. He won the Chinese GP Sprint race but had an average race weekend in Shanghai. He was slower than his teammate Charles Leclerc and was asked to swap his position with his teammate. After the race, he finished P6, starting in P5, but now he lost his points and was disqualified from the race.
Ferrari nightmare continues
The 2025 Formula 1 season was full of hopes for the Maranello team, but now they are facing a second straight nightmare race weekend. The Australian GP was a complete disaster for them, as the two drivers finished P8 and P10 after their team strategy failed. Now in the Chinese GP, they were disqualified after failing at the post-race checkups.
The double disqualification will hugely impact their championship points table where McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull and Williams are the top four teams. The next race will be at Japan’s Suzuka circuit and Ferrari needs to show progress to stay in the competition. McLaren and Mercedes are currently the two best teams on the 2025 grid.
