Carlos Sainz has made a significant decision regarding his future in Formula 1, committing to a multi-year deal with Williams Racing. This move sees the 29-year-old Spaniard poised to race alongside Alex Albon starting in the 2025 season.

Sainz's quest for a new seat began after he lost his position at Ferrari to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Despite multiple offers from teams like Sauber/Audi and Alpine, Sainz ultimately chose to join Williams, a team under the leadership of James Vowles.

Williams has not seen consistent success in recent years, but Sainz’s decision to join the team reflects his belief in their potential. His contract will span the 2025 and 2026 seasons, a period that will witness significant changes in Formula 1 regulations.

These changes include a new aerodynamic profile and the introduction of new power unit rules, which will mandate the use of 100% sustainable fuel. This continuity will be crucial for Williams as they navigate these transitions.

“I am very happy", says Carlos Sainz

Sainz expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, “I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards. It is no secret that this year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex for various reasons and that it has taken me some time to announce my decision." He emphasized his confidence in Williams as the right team to continue his F1 career, highlighting the team's historic significance and the legacy of its past drivers, many of whom were his childhood heroes.

Reflecting on the future, Sainz is determined to contribute to Williams’ resurgence. He stated, “The ultimate goal of bringing Williams back to where it belongs, at the front of the grid, is a challenge that I embrace with excitement and positivity. I am convinced that this team has all the right ingredients to make history again.”
