The 2024 Formula 1 season was very different for the Aston Martin F1 team. The biggest positive news for them was the announcement of Adrian Newey as the Managing Technical Partner for the 2025 season. F1's greatest designer will now draw his designs for Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.
Compared with last year's performance, they lacked consistency and pace this year. 2024 was a roller coaster year for them with many ups and downs and they finished 5th i the constructor's championship behind the Mercedes F1 team.
Fernando Alonso Outshined Stroll
Formula 1’s old horse Fernando Alonso is the only hope for Aston Martin this year. He still has the same fire burning and was always quicker than his teammate Lance Stroll. He started the season with a podium finish. The mid-season troubled him the most as their upgrades didn't work in the car and he fell behind Alpine and the Haas.
But it didn't stop Fernand0 from scoring the most important points in the Qatar and ABu dhabi Grand Prix. He is the consistent driver for the team, a valuable asset and a big contributor to the team's fifth-place finish in this year's constructors title race.

Inconsistency and lack of Pace
2024 was completely opposite to what Aston Martin did last year. Alonso was the only driver who gave some results and points. His teammate Lance Stroll was always behind the shadows. The team lacked pace on the straights. They also had some big issues with their floors that gave bumpy rides to the drivers.
Just like Red Bull their first-half performance and results helped them achieve the number 5 spot in this year's constructors championship. Teams like Alpine and Haas showed a giant leap in performance during the second half and sometimes dominated the Aston Martins.
The Adrian Newey effect
Team owner Lawrence Stroll invested heavily in bringing Adrian Newey to the team and believes he can end the team's inconsistency and imbalance. The F1 design Guru will join the team from March and with his little input the team could correct some of the issues they faced this year. But he will be concentrating more on the 2026 Project which is the new regulation change.
2026 ‘The Big Picture’
Fernando Alonso and Adrian Newey have all the experience and were part of winning teams. Together they can do wonders for the team in 2026. But first, the team needs to become consistent in 2025 by regularly finishing inside the points table. Honda will also join Aston Martin as the new engine partner. So like many other teams, Aston Martin also wants to dominate the 2026 season having the best crew on the grid.
