Former Red Bull driver David Coulthard has predicted Sergio Perez could follow the same end as Daniel Ricciardo if he doesn't improve this season in the remaining races. He predicts Checo could be axed if he doesn't give solid points to the team like Max Verstappen.
Ricciardo was shown way out in mid of the season by the RB team which is the Junior Red Bull team. He was replaced by a Youngster from New Zealand Liam Lawson who will be racing from the Austin GP to the rest of the season and beyond.
The driver at Risk is Perez
Now Red Bull’s Second driver Sergio Perez could also face the axe if he doesn’t score points in the next few races. Perez struggled miserably in Singapore where he dropped out of Q3 but recovered in the race and finished P10.
McLaren has already gone past Red Bull in the constructor's title. Now they are within hitting distance in the drivers title where Max Verstappen of Red Bull is leading by only 52 points. Red Bull will be very keen to go after drivers and constructor titles in every race.
Former Red Bull Driver David Coulthard has opened up about the situation Sergio Perez is facing. He said “He did brilliantly in Baku, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. One good result is not what you expect from you… he’s clearly the number two driver on that team. If he doesn't keep getting solid points in the remainder of the year, then, like Daniel Ricciardo looks like he’s on the way out the door, that could be the same situation for Perez.”
Red Bull was expecting Ricciardo to perform better as they saw him as a replacement for Sergio. But the Australian didn't improve in the season. Liam Lawson was very impressive when he raced instead of Ricciardo in the 2023 season. There are many contenders for Red Bull’s Second seat alongside Max Verstappen.
If Needed Red Bull could also be looking out of the box. Saubers Valtteri Bottas could be one option. He was a teammate for Lewis Hamilton after Nico Rosberg’s retirement. He played a nice wingman role in Mercedes. Red Bull could bring him as a potential replacement for Sergio next year.
