Why did umpire asked Ravindra Jadeja to remove tape from his hand? Photograph: (X)
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was seen having a heated conversation with umpire Richard Illingworth. The incident took place before Jadeja could come to bowl in the 19th over and his fourth over of the innings. Illingworth could be seen having a word with Jadeja to remove the protective taping on his left hand.
The 36-year-old Indian all-rounder had done a massive tape job on his left-hand which is also his bowling hand. Both the umpire and the player were involved in deep conversation as skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli joined the fray. In the end, Jadeja had to remove the taping before he could bowl.
One of the biggest reasons behind the move is to make sure that the taping as it is felt that the bowlers could have an extra grip. While the bowler and umpire were in conversation, Marnus Labuschagne could be seen taking a closer look. Once the tape was removed, Jadeja was hit on his left while trying to field off his bowling and small patch of blood oozed out.
CT25: IND vs AUS semi-final match evenly poised
Indian bowlers had fought back admirably well after Travis Head looked in ominous form early in the game. At the end of 25 overs, Australia were 125/3 with Steve Smith batting with Josh Inglis. Defending ODI World Cup winners had chose to bat first on a tricky wicket in Dubai.
Cooper Connolly was the first man out for a duck after facing nine balls. The left-handed batter prodded and poked at an away going ball of Shami to give Rahul an easy catch. The second wicket stand between Travis Head and Steve Smith was worth 50 runs which came off just 32 balls.
Head was batting on 39 runs when he tried to smash Varun Chakravarthy straight down the ground. Shubman Gill ran in and completed an easy catch to give India the huge wicket in the ninth over of the innings. Head’s innings contained five fours and two huge sixes. Ravindra Jadeja then struck when he dismissed Labuschagne LBW for 29 off 36 balls with two fours and a six.
