The WWE Hall of Fame induction of Sting's longtime friend and former tag team partner Lex Luger has made the wrestling community mad about Sting making his return to the business he departed more than a decade ago. After more than 40 years in the business, WCW mainstay Sting retired in 2024 after making notable appearances in AEW and WWE.

His reputation was cemented by his 2014 WWE debut, in which he interrupted the main event of the Survivor Series and his 2016 entry into the Hall of Fame. Sting has a Legends-style contract with AEW even though he is retired. As per reports claims that Luger and his associates told WWE that Sting was their first option for his induction. Just that has generated a lot of backstage talk, with WWE allegedly trying to get Sting to attend the event. If a deal is struck, WWE might be able to get Sting to return for a special performance.

Sting still has an AEW Legends-style contract even though he officially retired more than a year ago, however, it's unclear if AEW would have to approve his appearances on WWE shows.  Additionally, it was revealed that Sting's original plans merely called for a quick vacation to Las Vegas during the week before WrestleMania. That timeline, however, has now grown, raising more rumors that something is planned.

In-ring alliances and rivalries have shaped their enduring relationship. They developed a close friendship as they traveled and exercised together. Luger's baptism as a result of Sting's spiritual development deepened their bond even further. Luger has frequently discussed their strong relationship while mentioning examples of Sting's steadfast assistance. When Lex Luger went to Sting's AEW farewell match despite having a WWE Legends contract, it was clear that they were friends.

According to Sting, he has shown no desire to work as a manager or commentator full-time. In his last bout, he and Darby Allin defeated The Young Bucks to keep the AEW Tag Team Championships at AEW Revolution. While Sting assisted Darby Allin during his participation at All In 2024, he will never again be wrestling.
