The history of WWE has witnessed some sensational and historic moments throughout the years across various prestigious showdowns of the world’s most viewed wrestling entertainment business. It has witnessed the excellence and brilliance of the wrestling superstars while facing their opponents in the ring. These legends have given some memorable and remarkable fights for the fans to view.

With said that, here we’ll look at the top 10 historic and legendary matches of all time in the history of WWE. It includes some showdowns between the legends and the in-ring battles between the brothers.

10. WrestleMania 13 – Bret Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin, No disqualification match

Two of the all-time wrestling superstars Bret Hart and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin took on each other in this unforgettable clash at WrestleMania 13. To add some more spice for the fans, it was a ‘no disqualification submission’ fight.

This match ended up being a career-defining moment for Steve Austin as he regained his superstardom with a win in this all-important clash against Bret Hart.

9. Money in the Bank 2011 – John Cena vs CM Punk

In the last two decades, what may be dubbed as the best of the clashes was between CM Punk and 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena in the Money in the Bank 2011. It was a ‘ladder match’ and interestingly, Punk’s contract with the company was put on the line in this match.

Eventually, CM Punk saved his contract with the company with a thrilling win in this clash against the multi-time World Champion John Cena. This match set up completely a different storytelling trend in the history of WWE.

8. Badd Blood: In Your House – Hell in a Cell match ft. Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker

Two all-time legends of WWE, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker locked horns with each other in this ‘match for the ages’ in ‘Badd Blood; In Your House’ on October 5, 1997. The contention for the WWF Championship at Survivor Series was on the line in this ‘Hell in a Cell’ match.

The match lasted for 30 minutes, with some brilliant and amazing moves from both the superstars; eventually, Shawn got the better of The Undertaker and defeated the latter by a pinfall to become the number 1 contender for the WWF Championship at the Survivor Series.

7. WrestleMania 39 - Triple Threat Match – Drew McIntyre vs Gunther vs Sheamus

Last year in 2023, WrestleMania 39 attracted all the eyeballs for some iconic clashes that were staged in this edition of WWE’s prestigious and historical showdowns. One of those was a ‘Triple Threat Match’ for the intercontinental championship between Gunther, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.

The fans witnessed one of the most thrilling in-ring fights in the history of WWE; eventually, Gunther crossed the line and retained his Intercontinental Championship by defeating the Scottish Warrior and Sheamus.

6. WrestleMania 25 – Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker

Apart from 1997’s ‘Hell in a Cell’, the legends Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker produced another thrilling masterpiece 12 years later of their clash in 1997. The two greats took each other in the WrestleMania 25 in 2009. Taker was coming with an unbeaten streak of 16-0 in WrestleMania.

Here in this match, The Undertaker continued his dominance in WrestleMania by defeating Shawn Michaels and taking his WrestleMania winning streak from 16-0 to 17-0.

5. WrestleMania 10 – Razor Roman vs Shawn Michaels in a ‘Ladder Match’

30 years back now, the fans witnessed completely a ‘different kind’ of match for a championship. It all happened when Razor Roman and Shawn Michaels faced off each other to resolve the confusion and controversy over the real holder of the Intercontinental Championship title. The controversy started when Shaw was suspended from WWE, alongside revoking his Intercontinental Championship title; later, Razor Roman clinched the title after winning a tournament.

However, this match ended up resolving this entire confusion and controversy Razor Roman defeated Shawn Michaels to claim the true ownership of the Intercontinental Championship title.

4. TLC Match – WrestleMania 17 – Edge and Christian vs Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy (The Hardy Boyz)

It was only the second Table-Ladder-Chair match in the history of WWE since it was first played in 2000 at the SummerSlam between the same superstars. This TLC clash took place at the WrestleMania 17 on April 1, 2001, 23 years back from now.

This TLC match between the Hardy Boyz and Edge-Christian duo lasted one more minute than the length of their last meetup almost 8 months back at the SummerSlam in 2000. Edge and Christian managed to repeat the result of the previous SummerSlam and defeated the Hardy Boyz in this TLC match as well at WrestleMania 17 in 2001.

3. WrestleMania 20 – Triple Threat Match – Benoit vs Shawn Michaels vs Triple H

The then reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H was challenged by Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels in a ‘Triple Threat’ match with the title on the line. This clash was a main event at the WrestleMania 20 in 2004.

Chris Benoit finally forced Triple H to submit with an unbreakable Crippler Crossface and won the match to clinch his first-ever World Heavyweight Champion title in WWE.

2. WrestleMania 26 – Streak vs Career Clash ft. The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels

14 years back at WrestleMania 26 in 2010, probably the most iconic clash was staged as a main event of that edition. It was a face-off between WrestleMania’s unbeaten lion The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, who went on to put his WWE career on the line. It was also dubbed as the ‘winning streak vs career’ clash between Taker and Shawn Michaels.

Eventually, what came as a result was mostly expected by a lot of fans and wrestling experts as The Undertaker continued his dominant winning streak from 17-0 to 18-0 by defeating Shawn Michaels. The end of this match saw the ‘end of the road’ for Shawn Michaels in WWE and his retirement from the ring.

1. WrestleMania 10 – Singles Match – Bret Hart vs Owen Hart

The Hart brothers were forced to face each other in a singles match, which was also the second match at the WrestleMania 10 on March 20, 1994. Everyone was waiting for an interesting clash out of this sibling rivalry, which was ‘centre staged’ at the prestigious WWE showdown.

Owen Hart finally defeated his brother Bret Hart in this match that lasted more than 20 minutes and produced some thrilling moves from both superstars to give a completely action-packed clash for the fans.
