However, in the Main Event, Jey won it by eliminating Cena to earn a shot at the world title. In the latest Netflix show, 'WWE: Unreal', WWE explained the reason behind letting Jey win the Men's Royal Rumble, especially over the massive stars like Cena, Punk, Roman, and Rollins, all of whom are better placed than Jey in the pecking order currently.

In the show, the video of the discussion to decide the winner was posted, in which the majority of votes went in favor of Punk or Cena winning the Rumble. One of them was sure of winning the Elimination Chamber to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. In fact, Cena vs Cody was the only match that was initially planned and executed.

How Jey Uso became a favorite to win the Royal Rumble over CM Punk and John Cena?

Jey won the Royal Rumble and challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. Michael Hayes, one of the members of the creative team, pitched the idea of Jey winning the match over Punk and Cena, as he believed the former was 'hot, new, and fresh'.
