McDonagh springboarded a moonsault flip on War Raiders' Ivar and he got it awkwardly wrong, resulting in him landing and hitting his neck on the announcer's neck. The "Irish Ace" landed on top of his opponent and whiplashed onto the commentator's desk.

The wrestler was visibly in pain and Ivar broke his character to check on him. Commentator Michael Cole also suggested that McDonagh needed assistance. Cole believed that the Irish Ace was lucky to not have broken his neck.

"Somebody's got to check McDonagh after that. McDonagh's lucky he doesn't have a damn broken neck," Cole was heard as saying on-air.

McDonagh was seen collapsed on the ground backstage by the fans despite having completed the match. This happened after the War Raiders pinned Mysterio and McDonagh to retain the WWE World Tag Team Championship. WWE later revealed that he had broken three ribs and ruptured a lung in the process.

McDonagh to miss out on WWE action for a couple of months

Later, McDonagh took to X to address the issue. He revealed that he suffered multiple injuries and would be out of action for the next couple of months. He will also miss out on the Royal Rumble, slated for the 2nd of February.

"First off, thanks to everyone for the messages and the concern. I'm good. I've got a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung, so I'm going to be out for a couple months. All things considered, it could have been a lot worse, so I'm grateful for that. See ya in a bit," McDonagh posted on X.
