In his podcast recently, The Undertaker spoke about the fateful Montreal Screw job of 1997. The Deadman felt that Bret Hart was bitter about it. He explained that Bret was not willing to leave the company but the money offered by WCW was enormous. The American Badass felt that no one could deny such a huge amount.
The Undertaker felt that Bret might have made an announcement about him leaving the company despite being a world champion and said it would not have done any good. Bret was set to leave WWE and join WCW. He denied losing to Shawn Michaels due to his problems with the WWE Hall of Famer back then. That left a huge headache for Vince McMahon.
"I mean, Bret Hart was pretty bitter about it. It wasn't like he was ready to leave; it was a money deal. You cannot, no way in hell would you do that. He most likely would have gone on TV and announced it but that wouldn't do us any good," said the Undertaker in his podcast. He further touched upon the Survivor Series match between Bret and Shawn.
'We cannot have a guy leave the title and then go to the other show' - The Undertaker
To date, Michaels is treated to be the person behind Hart's Screw job. The WWE Hall of Famer added that being the top Wrestling company in the world, WWE could not have afforded to have their world champion leave the company. The phenom said that it was in the best interest of the company to take the title away from Bret so that the prestige of the Championship was not hampered.
"We cannot have a guy leave the title and then go to the other show. It just doesn't work. It's our comp so you can't just have him give up the title and then go to the competition. If he didn't wanna come recruit him an offer!" added the Undertaker as he felt a better offer for Hart from Vince could have probably ensured his extension of a contract with WWE.
