Dustin Rhodes fought Samoa Joe in an AEW World Championship Eliminator match a few days after his brother Cody Rhodes completed the storyline by defeating Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Rhodes' future with AEW is undetermined since his contract expires soon.

The 4/10 edition of AEW Dynamite began with Samoa Joe appearing for the AEW World Championship bout. Swerve Strickland, on the other hand, launched a savage attack on his AEW Dynasty opponent as he entered the ring. This increased supporters' enthusiasm for their match at Dynasty.

However, Samoa Joe versus Dustin Rhodes was moved to the main event of the evening. The famous great took advantage of Joe's wounded physique to establish an early lead over the champion. However, Joe's diversion of the referee was enough to secure a victory against Rhodes.

Joe took charge of the match as he targeted Rhodes' forehead wound, but Rhodes responded with a power slam. They swapped right hands in the middle of the ring, with Rhodes winning the exchange. Red is the code for a two. Joe dodged a bulldog out of the corner and down Rhodes with a lariat. Rhodes carried the championship to the ring, but he placed it down before using it. Instead, he struck Cross Rhodes in the centre of the ring. It gave him a two-count.

Rhodes came at Joe from the corner, but Joe grabbed him and downed him with an STO. Joe reached for a chain he had stored in the corner. When referee Paul Turner was removing the chain, Joe snatched the championship that was still in the ring in the other corner and decked Rhodes for the victory.
