Major upset as Sami Zayn ends 666 days of unbeaten streak of Gunther in WrestleMania XL

A major upset was witnessed on the Night One if WrestleMania XL. Sami Zayn defeated Gunther to reclaim the intercontinental championship he once owned. In the process, Sami ended the record unbeaten streak of Gunther. Before the match, the focus was on the mind games of Gunther. While the match indeed had several such elements, Sami emerged victorious almost like a phoenix from Ashes. 

Gunther dominated the match for most parts. It was a chop fest all around as both the wrestlers exchanged chops and were ready to give back. At a certain point, it seemed like the match was one-sided in the favor of Gunther. The ring general was at his usual best and dominated Zayn. He treated Sami as a normal wrestler and probably did not expect a fightback.

What followed was totally unexpected. Sami did not just fight back but shocked Gunther to core. As the German wrestler was playing mind games with Sami and his wife, there seemed to be no way out. Gunther dominated the match up with his power bomb and chops. A series of blows on Sami gave Gunther a huge confidence, probably a bit of overconfidence.

Sami Zayn wins the mental battle

Despite delivering two power bombs on a trot, Sami kicked out at two. It genuinely shocked Gunther. The wife of Zayn was seen saying 'It's over' for Gunther. The ring general was still seen smiling. But Sami's wife was confident of her husband. Despite being beaten up badly, Sami showed an incredible courage and got up. Gunther could not believe his eyes as Zayn suddenly started to fight back.

Sami wasted no time and delivered back-to-back helluva kicks to Gunther. The ring general probably could not recover from the shock. Sami successfully pinned Gunther and pulled off the biggest upset in recent times. For the first time in 666 days, Gunther failed to defend his title. He was in total shock and could not believe if it was dream or reality. For Sami, it is one of his career-best achievements.
