On WWE SmackDown before the Night of Champions, CM Punk came out to John Cena's Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick. The 17-time world champion revealed that Punk nearly made him cry when the latter said that he would miss him. Cena claimed that the Second City Saint going to Saudi Arabia was one of the biggest moments in the history of WWE.

During Punk's promo on SmackDown before the Night of Champions, Punk slowly whispered to Cena that he misses him. Speaking about it on Chris Van Vliet's podcast, the veteran revealed that it nearly made him break his character. He felt Punk showing up in Saudi Arabia was an incredible moment.

"In that moment, people were like, 'Oh, I’m heard. Yes, I’m ready to forgive.’ Astonishing. He’s the one that almost got me to break… because in between one of his lines, he said, ‘I miss you already.’ And man, I almost lost it right in front of him," Cena said on Chris Van Vliet's podcast.

John added that Punk totally crushed mocking him with the Doctor of Thuganomics promo. He felt Punk being in Saudi Arabia was one of the biggest moments in WWE's history, where accountability, vulnerability, apology, forgiveness, cultures melded into each other. He said that the entire feud with Punk was brilliant.

"That just made me cry. Like, awesome. And then he comes out and does my gimmick… He absolutely crushed it. Phil Brooks going to Saudi Arabia. That sh*t made me cry. Accountability, vulnerability, apology, forgiveness, cultures melding into each other. And then he comes out and does my gimmick," Cena added.
