Cody Rhodes was successful in his attempt to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship for the first time in his career. After ending the historic title reign of Roman Reigns to finish his story, Rhodes faced the challenge of AJ Styles for the world title. The two cut good promos and had a great match in Backlash 2024. The influence of the crowd on the match was amazing.

Both Cody and Styles got good support from the crowd. The match ended with Cody delivering Cross Rhodes to claim a win over the Phenomenal One. The focus now shifts towards the Clash at the Castle 2024 which is to take place in Scotland's Glasgow. It will be their second major title defence of Rhodes. There are many good wrestlers who could compete for the title in Glasgow.

5. Carmelo Hayes

Carmelo Hayes

Carmelo Hayes is still new to the main roster. He got drafted to Smackdown by none other than Cody himself. Soon after that, he got a match for the main event of the night against the American Nightmare. The calibre of the former NXT Superstar was on display as he put on a show despite going down against the world champion.

The main roster has taken notice of the in-ring skills and character work of Hayes. While it is not the right move to give someone like Hayes a shot at the title right out of nowhere, it could provide good confidence to the emerging talent. In particular, if Cody has to face Hayes in a triple-threat match, it could prove to be good for everyone.

4. Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley has not been in action for a long time. The last time he wrestled as a singles wrestler was for a one-off match to compete for the world title. But in the last several months, we have not witnessed the Almighty at his best. As the Final Testament seems to have finally moved away from the Street Profits, Lashley could go solo.

In the last episode of Smackdown, there were hints of Bobby returning to action as a solo performer. Hayes tempted him to be so by asking him the last time the former World Champion wrestled as a solo performer. It might actually lead to a feud between Lashley and Carmelo, which could in turn lead to the title shot at Clash at the Castle.

3. Solo Sikoa

Solo Sikoa

Solo Sikoa claimed a much-required win with Tama Tonga against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in Backlash 2024. With some assistance from Tanga Loa, the latest member of the Bloodline, Solo, and Tama emerged victorious in the street fight. It is clear that after a long losing streak, the company wants to make Sikoa look stronger, particularly with his new outlook.

The enforcer of the Bloodline seems to be the one handling the Bloodline's business currently. It is better to prove it than beating the world champion. Not to forget, it is Rhodes who took away the prestige and control the Bloodline had over the locker room by beating the Tribal Chief in WrestleMania XL. Sikoa would not mind addressing Rhodes for the first time since WrestleMania XL.

2. AJ Styles

AJ Styles

AJ Styles recently had a feud with Cody Rhodes. The Phenomenal One won the number one contender match against LA Knight before defeating some of the best Superstars in the blue brand like Rey Mysterio and Kevin Owens. AJ had a good match with Rhodes in Backlash 2024. Given their feud which was good, WWE might be interested in continuing their feud for a bit longer.

Longer feuds help wrestlers more than shorter feuds. Styles is one of the best in-ring wrestlers and can carry feuds well. As a heel character, he has slowly evolved and embraced the role well. If Styles can maintain his physical strength and be as good with the mic as he has been in the last few weeks, it could provide a good feud between the two once again.

1. LA Knight

LA Knight

LA Knight can be the next contender to face Rhodes. In the Clash at the Castle 2024, the Megastar could well end up facing the American Nightmare. Knight has everything it takes to have a title shot at Rhodes. The Megastar was a close second in the number-one contender match against Styles. But the win of the latter meant that LA could not have a shot at the title against the world champion.

In the press conference after Backlash 2024, Rhodes spoke highly of LA Knight. When asked about the one wrestler he would love to face, Cody put forth the name of Knight. Hence, it is not a bad option to have a feud between Cody and Knight. The only concern would be the fact that both Cody and Knight are faces, as pointed out by Rhodes himself. But such feuds have worked in the past as well.
