Shreyas Iyer has returned to light training as he works towards full fitness after suffering a serious injury during the Australia ODI series.
Iyer was not included in India’s squad for the South Africa ODIs starting November 30, as he continues recovery from his spleen injury.
He suffered a laceration in his spleen while taking a catch in the 3rd ODI vs Australia in Sydney and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Iyer had a minor procedure to stop internal bleeding and spent a week under observation before being discharged. He returned to India on November 16.
He is set to be out for at least two months but is aiming to return for the New Zealand ODI series beginning January 11.
Iyer has grown into a crucial ODI middle-order batter, and his return will be important with India building towards major white-ball assignments.
