Aryna Sabalenka, a tennis player from Belarus, was chosen the WTA Player of the Year 2024 for the first time. The 26-year-old ended the year as the world's top-ranked player after capping an incredible season with two Grand Slam victories. Sabalenka's triumph at the U.S. Open in September and her successful defense of the Australian Open title in January were the highlights of her season.

She won WTA 1000 Championships in Cincinnati and Wuhan in addition to her Grand Slam victories, accumulating an outstanding 56-14 win-loss record. She won close to $10 million prize money for her skill on the court. Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, and Zheng Qinwen were among the other players on Sabalenka's Player of the Year ballot, but the 26-year-old had won a vote from the tennis press to take first place after recording a 56-14 record, making it to seven finals in 2024, winning four titles, defending her Australian Open title, winning her first US Open trophy, and winning two WTA 1000 events in Cincinnati and Wuhan.

Aryna Sabalenka's winning run from August to October, during which she won 16 straight games, was one of the season's turning points. She demonstrated her consistency on the biggest platforms by winning 23 of her previous 24 matches at one point. Paolini received recognition for her achievements with Errani, even though she was not nominated for the Most Improved Player in a season that saw her soar from outside the Top 30 in singles to world No. 4 and make it to two major finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The two Italians helped their nation win the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time since 2013 and took home the gold medal in doubles at the Olympics in Paris. Together, they also made it to the Roland Garros doubles final.

Several exceptional players from the season were also honored at the WTA's annual awards:

Emma Navarro: In September, Emma Navarro earned her first appearance in the WTA's top 10 following her most successful Grand Slam run at the U.S. Open, where she defeated reigning champion Coco Gauff in the fourth round before falling to Sabalenka in the quarterfinals. Towards the end of 2024 Emma Navarro become No. 8. While Emma Navarro was named the year's most improved player.

Paula Badosa: Paula Badosa missed the latter part of 2023 due to a back ailment, the 27-year-old Spaniard returned to the top of the sport this year, rising to No. 12 in the rankings, winning the Washington title, and reaching the U.S. Open quarterfinals, which equaled her highest Grand Slam tournament finish. Paula Badosa won the 'Comeback Player of the Year' award.

Lulu Sun: By qualifying for Wimbledon in July and placing second at the Monterrey Open in August, Lulu Sun rose from outside the top 200 in the rankings to a career-high No. 39. Lulu Sun, a 23-year-old New Zealand native who was raised in Switzerland, assisted the University of Texas in winning an NCAA team title. She was named as 'Newcomer of the Year'. 

Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani: Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani won a gold medal in doubles at the Olympics in Paris and assisted Italy in winning the Billie Jean King Cup. Additionally, they advanced to the French Open doubles final together. In both the French Open and Wimbledon singles tournaments, Paolini came in second 'Doubles Team of the Year' went to them.
