During the fourth-round clash at the 2024 US Open, Andrey Rublev's frustration led to a concerning incident as he inflicted an injury on himself. While trailing in the match against Grigor Dimitrov, Rublev struck his hands in anger against the racket, resulting in bleeding.

Rublev, who had secured wins over Arthur Rinderknech and Jiri Lehecka, faced a strong opponent in Dimitrov, who entered the battle with three consecutive straight-set wins, including one against Tallon Griekspoor in the third round.

The match on Arthur Ashe Stadium saw Dimitrov taking a strong initial lead of 4-1 with two breaks of serve. Rublev's frustration then led to a self-inflicted injury, requiring a medical time-out. Although the clash resumed, Rublev lost the set 3-6 shortly afterwards.

Rublev's Temper Issues Costs Him Wins

The Incident at the Flushing Meadows marks yet another instance where the 26-year-old's temper has flared on the Tennis court. In an earlier incident this year, he aggressively smashed his knee with a racket during a disappointing opening-round loss. Similar behaviour was also observed during his third-round match at the French Open.

Addressing the media following a particularly poor performance at the 2024 French Open, where multiple racket smashes and repeated frustration-driven bench kicking were on display, Andrey Rublev openly acknowledged his actions and expressed deep disappointment in his behaviour. The World number 6 also stated how his behaviour is also responsible for his loss at Ronald Garros, primarily because he couldn't keep his 'head'.

"Completely Disappointed with myself the way I behaved, the way I performed and I don't remember behaving worse on a Slam ever. I think it was the first time, I ever behaved that bad. Not much to say." :- Andrew Said in an interview after his loss at Ronald Garros.
