Carlos Alcaraz is seeking to regain the top spot after taking home his first title of the 2025 season in Rotterdam. Jannik Sinner's absence due to a three-month doping ban will not affect my pursuit of top form on the tour the Spanish superstar said. After failing two drug tests last year, Sinner reached an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and accepted a three-month punishment rather than a harsher suspension.

At the Court of Arbitration for Sport, WADA had challenged the ruling of an independent tribunal, requesting a longer ban for the World No. 1 who had won the Australian Open earlier this year. Nevertheless, WADA retracted its appeal after the deal.

"As for the sanction, there is little to say. Whether Jannik plays or not, we try to do well in every tournament because number one is an objective. Right now, as always, we are trying to focus on what we have to train, on what we have to improve, and from there we are going to do our best in the tournaments to try to get closer to number one," Carlos Alcaraz told AS in an interview.

Daniil Medvedev and Nick Kyrgios are among the tennis players who have expressed disapproval of Sinner's settlement with WADA. Alcaraz, though, didn't seem eager to participate in the controversy surrounding his bitter adversary. Sinner won two Grand Slam titles, including the Australian Open and the US Open, last year while avoiding suspension.

Jannik Sinner will return before French Open

Before the French Open, which begins on May 25, the next Grand Slam, Jannik Sinner will make a comeback to the tour. Since he won't be able to defend his ranking points during his three-month suspension, he is predicted to lose 2,100 points. In the men's singles standings, Alcaraz is now 3,320 points behind Sinner, who is placed No. 3 with 7,510 points. Starting on February 17, the Spanish sensation, who took home the French Open and Wimbledon titles the previous year, will play in the Qatar Open.
