WATCH: Naomi Osaka edges past Diane Parry in round 1 of Wimbledon 2024

The time has come with one of the most iconic Grand Slam tournaments to take place today and this is not only a tournament for the gentleman, but iconic and legendary Women tennis players as well. Even though we have some great players in the mix, the players who the people want to see make an epic comeback this season are Japanese superstar and former World number 1 Naomi Osaka.

There was a time when Naomi Osaka was one of the top contenders in the scene and has even gone on to win 4 Grand Slam titles as well. Though Osaka has recently not had the best of seasons we still saw some glimpses of her peak season in the last few tournaments she has featured in. She was up against a young and fresh Diane Parry who is considered an upcoming talent from France. Though we know Osaka is a much more experienced veteran, this was still going to be a tough game for her going forward.

Osaka managed a close-fought victory

Osaka has not been in the form of her life and it was evident in this match where even after winning the first set convincingly by a score of 6-1, She still gave a chance to Parry into the game as she lost the second one by playing some disappointing tennis. This set a match which went straight down the wire which we never expected at all. In the end, Osaka still managed to win the last and final set and go on to win the first of what is her 5th Appearance in Wimbledon. She will still be happy to keep her chances alive and go on to the next round. despite showing some poor tennis it was still great to see some of her trademark winners in this match.

This might be a slightly nervy win, but it was still important for the Former World number 1 to get this win and move forward into the competition. We did see some great shots from her in this tournament. We still have to give some props to Parry who still played some great tennis in the match, but eventually it was a moment for Osaka to enjoy.
