The Cincinnati Open has begun and there are a lot of top contenders who will be featuring in the tournament. One of the top players we all have been looking forward to seieing is Polish superstar and World number one Iga Swiatek. This is also the first tournament where we were going to Swiatek compete after winning a Bronze medal in the Paris Olympics this season.
Iga Swiatek had managed to edge past Gracheva in her first match in Cincinnati which was a three set thriller. She was now set to face one of Ukraine's upcoming superstars in Marta Kostyuk and this was one of the most anticipated round 3 games to watch out for. There is no doubt that the Polish was a favorite in this encounter, but there was no way she could take the young and talented Marta Kostyuk lightly at all. This was a match that the fans were waiting to witness.
Swiatek brutally defeats the Ukrainian star
There is no doubt that Marta Kostyuk is still a great talent bust the first set itself left a lot to celebrate for us. It was Swiatek to completely dominated the Ukainian with a score of 6-2 and was in control the entire. Swiatek was just one set away from getting into the quarter finals. The second set saw Kostyuk suffer the same fate as Swiatek makes it to the quarter finals of the Cincinnati Open and starts of her hard court season on a strong note. This turned out to be another one sided encounter where the Polish superstar prevailed.
Watch the video below-
Swiatek has now had a great start to her hard court season and this was another great performance from her in this tournament. Swiatek will now go in even more confident in the quarter finals after brutrally defeating Kostyuk in straight sets. It will be interesting to see what she has in store for us going forward in this tournament where she is looking like one of the top contenders to win it as well. We all hope that she continues her great performance going forward as she plays her second consecutive quarter finals in Cincinnati.
