The Paris Olympics have had its fair share of surprises already in the playoffs stage where we have already seen big stars like Iga Swiatek and Alexander Zverev lose big matches in the contest and get eliminated. Upsets have suddenly become a part and parcel of the game and it seems like we cannot completely predict on what will be coming up next in the events at all.

The one quarter finals which we thought would have a one sided result was between Norways Iceman Casper Ruud, who was perhaps one of the best players in the Clay season and was having a great run in Paris Olympics as well. he was up against a talented but slightly inconsistent young Canadian player in Felix Auger- Aliassime. On paper there was no doubt that Ruud was the man who was the favorite to win this contest against the 23-year-old youngster.

Casper Ruud falls short in thrilling 3 set game

There is no doubt that Casper Ruud has given some great performances this season, but Felix has also beaten some big names in the past and he straight away proved his worth in the first set of the game where he won by a margin of 6-4. The second set however saw a brilliant fightback from the World number 8 as he won the tie breaker in the second set to come back into the match straight away. It was all or nothing for the two players in the last and final set to make it to the semi's. This is where Felix came back and ruined the medal hopes for the Norwegian winning the set by a score of 6-3.

This was a great game where we finally got see the fighting spirit of Felix against a great opponent in Casper Ruud. On the other hand this was another disappointing end to Ruud' s journey who was looking really good to win something big. It turns out that the iceman has proven to be unlucky in big tournaments once again and has lost to a lower seeded player on this occassion by failing in the crunch moments.
