WATCH: Billie Jean King makes history again as the first woman honored with a star on 'Hollywood Walk of Fame'

Tennis star Billie Jean King made history after becoming the first woman honored in the Hollywood Walk of Fame's newly established Sports Entertainment category. The tennis stalwart was celebrated during a special ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard, where she talked about her childhood days, which she spent in Los Angeles, and memories of witnessing the stars with the likes of Lucille Ball and Doris Day.

Notably, the Sports Entertainment category is set to honor the figures who have showcased excellence and longevity in both the sports and entertainment industries. The 39-time Grand Slam winner has joined Michael Strahan and Carl Weathers, who have earlier won this title.

The star player's stellar career includes 39 Grand Slam titles and leadership in founding the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and World Team Tennis. The 81-year-old tennis icon has also served as a producer for PBS Groundbreakers and made her appearances on shows like Law and Order and The Odd Couple.

"My family loved music and movies. A trip to Hollywood, a movie at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, was a special treat for our family. My mother would have loved this. I remember thinking back then, ‘Oh man, this is really cool. This is unbelievable. Oh, I’m never going to get this.’ Here I am. Sports are entertainment, and as athletes, we love performing in front of an audience," King said.
