The game of tennis is one of the biggest sports in the World and we have been enjoying this season where we have seen some amazing players play some great tennis early on. We have seen a great number of players who have impressed us a lot throughout their careers and won some big titles as well. It is safe to say that we have been enjoying our time seeing the matches which have been a treat to watch for the fans and all of us will look forward to seeing great like this in the upcoming tournaments as well.

Though we all love our favourite stars, we still have to remember that there are some rules which players should follow off the court as well. One such rule is the doping test which is not important for only the tennis players but any athlete who is involved in the game as well. There have been some players who have not gone through these problems which have also affected their career and tarnished their name completely. There have been some legendary players in the game who have been caught in these situations and have caused some damage as well.

So, here are the top 5 tennis players who have failed the doping test:

5. Simona Halep

halep

Simona Halep was set to be one of the biggest stars in Tennis after winning two major trophies and also going on to become a World number one as well. However, due to some major problems in her career the Romanian talent is currently out of the limelight and is barely playing any tournaments. One of the big problems faced by Halep was when she tested positive for Roxadustat during the US Open 2022 which caused her to miss out on the season and from here started her dark descent into the game.

Who would have thought that a legendary player like Martina Hingis would face problems like this? The year was 2007 and this was one of her dark days in tennis as she tested positive for Cocaine Metabolite and was also suspended for two years. Though Hingis had said that she never tried Cocaine in her life and tested negative in a private test. Hingis did manage to come back and win some major titles in doubles before her retirement, but the damage was done in her singles career as she never won a singles Grand Slam title since 1999.

3. Andre Agassi

There is no doubt that Andre Agassi was one of the best American tennis players to ever grace the court and has achieved everything in the game. However, Agassi was not only caught in a test where there was Methamphetamine found in his blood but he also lied about it as well. This happened in 1997 when he was at the peak of his career. In the end, he was probably on the luckier side as this only led to him getting suspended for 3 months and resuming his illustrious career. This could have put the former World number one in danger but he somehow got away with it in the end.

2. Maria Sharapova

sharapova

Maria Sharapova is one of the legendary figures in the game and has given us some great performances in the game of tennis. However, there was a moment in her career when she tested positive for Meldonium which she had revealed to have been using for years. This resulted in the Siberian Siren initially getting suspended for 2 years, but since she appealed that she had been using it before it was prohibited by the ITF, the punishment was reduced to 15 months.

1. Jannik Sinner

One of the players whose dope tests came to light just recently is none other than former World number one Jannik Sinner. The Italian was tested back in March with Clostebol in his blood and this led to the 22-year-old Australian Open champion being fined more than $300,000. This news really tarnished the image of Sinner who is probably one of the best players in the ATP scene right now, but it turns out he has chosen to dedicate himself to the Anti-doping standards and will be looking forward to playing the upcoming US Open 2024 this year.
