The match had some of the most controversial decision and one of them came in the second set where Nakashima was in the lead with a score of 3-2. Fritz had challenged that the ball was out, but the hawkeye technology was delayed which led to Fritz and Nakashima continuing the match. However the umpire stopped the game midway and the hawkeye showed that the ball was comfortably out, but instead of giving the point to Fritz the call was made to replay the point which did not sit well with anybody. Even the ATP players were not happy with this decision and unleashed an outburst on the chair umpire. The first tennnis player to show his frustration was Dennis Shapalov stating " They didn’t stop it in time. We played 6-7 more shots. If you would’ve stopped the point, we could’ve looked at it."
That was not all as the list of players contesting was Daniil Medvedev as well "Ridiculous decision.. ball is out, point is over, point to Fritz. How was this not the outcome?". It is safe to say that no one is happy with the case and it is evident that there is some faults in the system of how this match officiated.
