India in the world of tennis has still gone on to give us some brilliant sports icons which we remember even today. However, we are still waiting for the perfect singles champion who will represent the era of tennis going forward. The one that is coming closer to achieving that is Sumit Nagal who has been giving some great performances and also made it to the ATP top 100 rankings.

Sumit Nagal was set to play in the draw of the Geneva Open. The first round game for the talented 26-year-old was against top 20 ranking and 5th seeded player in the tournament Sebastian Baez. This was another tough competition for Nagal going forward, but we still expected him to put up a fight after his promising performance in the Monte Carlo Masters where he made it to the 3rd round and was up against Holger Rune.

Nagal fails to get past Baez

This was going to be a big challenge for Nagal, but this seemed to still give his best performance in the first set. The game started intensely as Nagal did break the service of the Argentine. The match eventually went to a tiebreaker with Baez breaking the service. The tiebreaker itself was quite gruelling and it went in favour of Baez. There was still a chance for Nagal to come back in the second set, unfortunately, it was Baez who dominated the set completely. All together it ended up being a straight loss for Nagal.

This might not be the way Nagal would have wanted to end his last tournament before the Roland Garros, but even in this game where he was against a seeded player showing glimpses of brilliance. Nagal still gave a tough fight in the first set, but after he lost the first one, the pressure of coming back in the match became tough for the Indian talent. We hope Nagal comes back from this loss and gives us a great performance in Paris where he will be featured in the main draw.
