The Barcelona Open has been full of surprises so far where we have seen some big exits already. We are still in search of our new Barcelona title winner this season. Right now there are more prodigies than big names in the tournament right now. This has really been an ATP tournament full of drama where we got some iconic matches already and it is all very captivating.

The match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Facundo Diaz Acosta was the quarter final game where Tsitsipas was supposed to be the clear favourite after coming fresh from a Monte Carlo Masters victory just a few weeks ago. He was also up against a lower seeded player in Acosta as well. Though it looked like an easy game for the Greek, There was still no saying how this match would end up.

Tsitsipas scrapes through to semis

The game as usual started with some drama as Tsitsipas was the one on the backfoot after the first set. Acosta went on to take control of the game winning 6 games to 4 and leading the game. It was one of those days when Tsitsipas was under a lot of pressure. However, The Monte Carlo champion came back strong in the next set as he won 6 games to 3 making sure he was still in the game. There was still one more set to go and it was still anybody’s game. The last set was one of the best ones in the match where both the players were equally giving it their all. The match went into a tiebreaker which was equally gruelling. In the end, it was Tsitsipas who dug out a win and qualified for the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open.

This was perhaps one of the best games in the tournament so far where both the players were coming after the win. What should have been an easy victory for Tsitsipas turned out to be a lot of hard work to stay in the competition. He will be playing in the semi-finals tomorrow against Arthur Fils or Dusan Lajovic. This has kept his hopes alive for winning the tournament that has eluded him for a long time.
