A Spanish tennis player has received a 15-year ban from the sport after confessing to 35 violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program. Aaron Cortes was found guilty of match-fixing and providing payment for a tournament wildcard. The International Tennis Integrity Agency, with law enforcement, conducted an investigation leading to Cortes being fined £59,000 ($75,000), with £44,000 ($56,250) suspended.

The Spanish tennis player achieved his highest singles ranking at world No. 955 in September 2017. He confessed to committing 35 corruption offences spanning from 2016 to 2018. In addition, the allegations against him included contriving the outcome of events, accepting money to contrive the outcome of events, failure to report corrupt approaches, wagering on tennis, and providing money to tournament officials in exchange for a wild card.

“Contriving the outcome of events, accepting money to contrive the outcome of events, failure to report corrupt approaches, wagering on tennis, and providing money to tournament officials in exchange for a wild card,” ITIA said after making the huge decision about the ban.

The suspension will conclude at midnight as of dated on March 26

At 29 years old the star Tennis player fully cooperated with the investigation and accepted the agreed sanction, relinquishing his right to a hearing before an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer. His suspension commenced on March 27, 2024, and will conclude at midnight as of dated on March 26, 2039.

Throughout his suspension, the star player is also prohibited from participating in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the ATP, WTA, ITF, Tennis Australia, the French Tennis Federation, Wimbledon, the USTA, or any national association. This is a huge halt to this professional career given the time the suspension will last. It is also fair to say that it is the end of a promising career for a player who had so much to offer to the game of Tennis.
