It is the Clay season finale and the tournament is still in the balance. We have already been treated to some great matches in this tournament. There are still some great players still in the mix going into round 3 and we will be looking forward to all these big matches coming up.

The match looked like an easy win for Madrid Open champion Andrey Rublev who was up against an unseeded player in Matteo Arnaldi. Rublev after Madrid seemed to have come back to form and was looking great in the first two rounds of the Roland Garros tournament. This was also a chance for him to achieve Grand Slam glory that he has failed to do so far in his career. On paper, this looked like another fixed win for the Russians.

Rublev gets another shock

Matteo Arnaldi is still early in his career but has still not hit his peak. However the 23-year-old surprised the Russian in the first set itself where he went on to beat Rublev in a grueling tiebreaker. Though this was a shock, there was still a chance for Rublev to come back. Unfortunately, that did not happen as Arnaldi went on to win the next two sets as well with a score of 6-2 and 6-4. This was another major upset that we got to witness in the tournament.

This was another disappointing match for Rublev who was at least a playoff favorite in the tournament. This was another game where he was not able to get back when he was under immense pressure. We all thought that Rublev even might have a chance to win his first grand slam after his heroics in Madrid where he beat the likes of Carlos Alcaraz as well. This will be another game he will want to forget. The Grand Slam dreams of one of the most talented Russian players we have ever seen in this current generation.
