Paula Badosa(Source-X)
There have been plenty of promising players in The WTA singles and one of these players is Paula Badosa. The Spaniard has had some great highlights in her career where she has also made it to a WTA ranking of number 2. Badosa made it to the quarter-finals of the 2021 French Open and has won 3 WTA singles titles. The 25-year-old was one of the prodigies of the current generation where she impressed everyone with her powerful serve and aggressive game.
Though it was a career that promised a lot, there was an unfortunate incident in the Stuttgart Open where she was up against world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka. Badosa was as usual giving a great contest to the 2-time grand slam champion who after losing the first set in an epic tiebreaker came back into the game winning the second set. Trouble started when Badosa faced problems with her back and eventually had to retire and give up the game. This was an absolutely heartbreaking moment for her.
Career at risk
This injury was already a setback as a win against Sabalenka would have put her straight through the knockouts. There has been some information given on social media where the medical details of her injury were revealed. It turns out that the injury goes back to the Indian wells where the doctors had told Paula Badosa that it was difficult for her to continue with this injury. However, we still saw her play the WTA tournaments and right now she is taking Cortisone injections to at least be able to play a few more years.
This was really a dark moment in Badosa’s career. It is sad that all it took was one back injury to cause a stall in her career. It is still great to see that she is still trying to make a comeback even after the tragic incident. All the tennis fans will be hoping that the Spaniard will make a return to the court soon and give us some great matches once again. These are the tough moments for an athlete and we all should believe that she fights through it and makes a great comeback.
