The 2025 Davis Cup returns with many novelties, featuring a mixed format of the game that nods the traditional composition and renewed intention to conquer it by some of the world's best players. The first event will kick off on Thursday, January 30th, with a qualifying round that includes the thirteen series, played in the historic away format. However, it's worth noting that Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud, and Alex de Minaur will be making their appearance in the forthcoming showpiece event.

Nick Kyrgios returns in Australian squad for 2025 Davis Cup

Interestingly, tennis star Nick Kyrgios will return to another familiar setting with the Australian Open concluding later this month. The Canberra-born star has been named in the Australian squad for the Davis Cup team for qualifying in Stockholm, Sweden, on January 31 and 1 January. It also marks Kyrgio's first appearance in the world team since November 2109, when he thwarted Steve Darcis and Chilean Alejandro and Gonzalez in the November final thriller.

The side was led by Lleyton Hewitt, who aims to improve on some stellar form in the recent years of the game after ending his journey as the runner-up of the 2022 and 2023 David Cup finals and a semifinal showing in Malanga last year. The 29-year-old star has built an impressive history in the marquee event, with an 11-5 record in the singles matches.

The Australian team, which holds a 7-3 head-to-head record against Sweden, aims to be one of the 13 winning nations in the first qualifying rounds to advance to the second round of the qualifiers in September.
