Novak Djokovic opens up on head injury and his reasons for playing the Geneva Open

World number 1 Novak Djokovic gives an update on his head injury in Rome and reveals reasons for playing in the currently ongoing Geneva Open after receiving a surprising wildcard entry.

No one would have thought that the Geneva Open would have one of the biggest draws in this ATP tour with many world-class players. One of the most iconic players who is featuring in the tournament is world number 1 Novak Djokovic. The Serbian received a wildcard entry which surprised a lot of tennis fans seeing the 24 Grand Slam champion play in an ATP 250 tournament.

Though Novak Djokovic will be a favourite to win this tournament being the highest-seeded player, he will still be under a little bit of pressure of not winning a title this season and failing to make it to a final. The last tournament the Serb played was the Italian Open where he had a serious head injury due to an accident and lost the 3rd round game against Alejandro Tabilo. There are still a lot of questions about his injury concerns and his reasons for choosing to play in Geneva just before the French Open.

Djokovic answers the questions

There have been a lot of reasons and speculations about Djokovic's recent decisions and the unfortunate bottle accident he faced. Djokovic cleared his doubts about his head injury stating, "My head is fine, everything is fine, I have been training correctly for a week.” this answer gives us relief as we are happy to know that he will be fully fit. on answering questions about his decision to play in Geneva Djokovic had a clear answer for that as well he further stated, "The reason why I have decided to come and play here is because, at the moment, there is no better training for me than playing games. I need more matches, even if it’s just one or two, I hope there are more."

This was a very assuring and clear statement by Djokovic who just wants to get more games before he plays the Roland Garros and get some confidence by playing more matches. He will be seen playing his first game of the tournament against Yannick Hanfmann in the 2nd round and make sure he gives his best performance.
