Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has been making the audacious headlines for all the right reasons in recent times. The star player is currently in the news for his stellar performances in the French Open, where he will be aiming to defend his title here. He has won the ABN AMRO Open, Monte Carlo Masters, and Italian Open this year and must be aiming to win his fifth Grand Slam of his career at Roland Garros.
However, a recent media report about him in his nation has stated that he was extremely close to leaving tennis at some point in his past. But the Spaniard has refuted these rumors while calling them 'lies.' The media reports suggested that the four-time Grand Slam winner was close to pursuing soccer as a career instead of tennis.
Carlos Alcaraz was close to leaving tennis?
Carlos Alcaraz stated that it was a big lie. He accepted that he played football but always wanted to be a tennis player. He refuted the media reports by stating that he was never planning to quit tennis.
Thereafter, Alcaraz was asked about what he would like to have in tennis that football players have. The tennis star stated that football players get to spend more time with family, while this has not been the case with their sport. He elaborated on how tennis players have hectic schedules with back-to-back ATP tours.
"Oh, that's a lie. I played football (soccer), but from the very beginning, I always wanted to play tennis. It never crossed my mind to quit tennis. Never, never, never. What I’d like is to have a home base for longer periods of time. Footballers (soccer players), even when they travel for away games—they usually go home to sleep. Or if they’re playing away, they still have a set place to stay. We’re traveling week after week, hotel after hotel. We can’t really have what you’d call a home—we’re always in different places, and we can’t settle into one place. So I’d probably take that part of football," Carlos Alcaraz said.
