The Madrid Open is not only known for ATP but the WTA as well. This is where the best women tennis players also try to give their best performance to win this iconic clay season tournament. This season has also seen some great matches in this category which features some of the best tennis players in the world as well. There have also been some surprising games which have impressed all of us. There were many matches we can still look back to in the Madrid Open.
The match between Marketa Vondrousova and Mira Andreeva was one of the most interesting matches in the 3rd round. Vondrousova would have been the slightly preferred favourite after winning the Wimbledon last season, but she was up against a 16 year old prodigy who has also been impressive this season. Andreeva has come after a fairly successful time in the juniors and has shown potential in the start of her professional season in the game.
Andreeva dominates Vondrousova
Vondrousova was the higher seeded player in this encounter but today she had to face a player who used her defensive techniques really well against her. The 1st set was slightly neck in neck, but it was Andreeva who managed to come out on top with her calm approach forcing Vondousova to make mistakes. After winning 7 games to 5 in the first set, the talented teenager still had to repeat the same in the second set. Infact she did it even better as she completely dominated the last set winning 6 games to 1 and continuing her great season.
This was a great performance against a top 10 WTA player and will give the young girl a lot of confidence going forward. Beating a player like that in two straight sets is something not a lot of players are able to do. It will be interesting to see what she has in store for us going forward in the season. This has surely started off as a great season for her to make it to round 4 once again. She will be looking to finally make it to the knockouts of the tournament as well.
