The Serbian great Novak Djokovic will be playing together with the Australian star Nick Kyrgios in the upcoming Brisbane International Tournament. Kyrgios and Djokovic will team up for the first time and it will be their team debut in the professional tennis circuit. They will be playing their first game at the Patrick Rafter Arena in Brisbane tomorrow.
Meanwhile, both the stars have expressed their excitement and views about playing with each other and also spoke about their potential partnership. The duo will be eyeing winning the championship and start their journey on a title-winning note.
“It’s going to be fun, we texted about it and we spoke earlier in Wimbledon (this year) about playing together when he’s back on tour. We’ve got the first chance right away in the first week of the season,” said Djokovic ahead of the start of the Brisbane International Tournament.
Trying to have some fun out there – Nick Kyrgios
Furthermore, Kyrgios also came up with his side of views about his upcoming partnership with the Olympic gold winner. Kyrgios was also seen taking a bit of jibe in a joking manner on this.
“Everyone thinks that it’s a pleasure playing with him (but) it’s a pleasure playing with me … Let’s be real,” Kyrgios was quoted as saying (jokingly) by Eurosport.
“No, look we wanted to play one time at least before either his career ends or mine finishes. Whenever you have a team like this the fans must get that. Because that’s what tennis is about, having two great personalities and trying to have some fun out there,” he added later.
Notably, the main draw of the Brisbane International Tournament will commence on January 5, 2025, before the commencement of the Australian Open a week later on January 25.
Besides that, Kyrgios and Djokovic have also expressed their bold and blunt opinions about the recent controversy around the ‘Jannik Sinner doping’ case.
